Not only does this LoDo bakery have one of the best smothered burritos but they also sell THEE best corn taco shells in town! Makes for the perfect Taco Tuesday at home, your friends will happily agree.
Of course they also sell flour tortillas as well as fresh green and red tamales which are just as mouth-watering.

I usually have a great experience at la popular, but this time the tamales I brought home had some long curly black Hairs in them.
This TOTALLY ruined the Whole batch and my normally great tamale meal!!!!
I'm questioning ever going back, management has evidently taken a back SEAT TO INSURING sanitary Kitchen Conditions -

This place has the best tamales and breakfast burritos in Denver!!! It's not Saturday morning without a stop here before the trip to the mountains. Staff is friendly and quick and really care!!

I love this place! I live nearby and I love coming here for lunch. As other reviewers have mentioned, this place is NOT a full restaurant so you'll have to pre-plan where you are going to eat your food - maybe a drive to a nearby park or you might even resort to eating in your car.
Please note: the windows and doors to the joint are darkly tinted so you can't look inside, and at first, you might be second-guessing your decision to buy food from such a shady-looking place. However, fight your urge to run away and just open the door.
You will find yourself in an industrial food factory that happens to have a little counter and cash register up front. You will definitely wonder if you are in the right place, but draw your attention to the menu posted on the left side of the wall in front of you and carry on.
The Smothered Bean and Cheese Burrito is the bomb! The person helping you will pop a pre-made burrito into the microwave (seriously, the microwave) - don't be afraid. She'll ask what you want on top of your burrito - I always get all the fixins added: lettuce, tomato, jalapenos, etc.
She will hand over a little box that feels like it weighs two pounds. If you've got a sweet tooth - also order one of the tasty pastries they've got in the display case. I really like the pineapple empanada. Sometimes I like to get a bag of the fresh made tortilla chips, which are restaurant-quality.
It's a ton of food for less than $7 and the green chile is incredible. Love love love. Sometimes I get these several days in a row. I crave that green chile sauce. If I'm crazy hungry I can just barely finish everything except maybe the last sliver. If I'm normal hungry I can usually only eat half of it.
It's no-frills delicious. Highly recommended. -

Wow! Great food great prices. I can't get this kind of food in AK so I went here every morning for their breakfast burrito. The last morning I got one for my wife too and got them smothered with everything on top. So good! I'll miss this place
